New Year's Honours

Arghh!

Sade (warning: constant music on this web site) has won an OBE[1]. For services to the recording industry. Why do people buy her records? They're all terrible!

[1] Is an OBE higher or lower than an MBE? Does anyone know? Does anyone care?

Officer of the British Empire (OBE) is

lower than Member of the British Empire (MBE) as MBE is the highest civilian honour that can be bestowed by the Queen. The Order was created by King George V in 1917 to reward those involved in WWI whose service merited recognition.

Why did Sade receive one? Well, I imagine quite a few people enjoy her music, maybe even the Queen :)

Officer is higher than Member and the Order in descending order is as follows;

  • The Sovereign
  • Grand Master: The Duke of Edinburgh
  • Five classes with Military and Civil Divisions
  • Knights or Dames Grand Cross (G.B.E.)
  • Knights or Dames Commanders (K.B.E.or D.B.E)
  • Commanders (C.B.E.)
  • Officers (O.B.E.)
  • Members (M.B.E.)
  • Medal: (B.E.M.)

I really dig Sade. A great vibe and phenomenally fantastic pipes. Even the occasionally good song ... :-)

OBE?

Who on earth is going around awarding out-of-body experiences, and what do I have to do to get one?! ;)
