BioXML

I'm looking for a good excuse to learn about bioinformatics, on my work time. I need to find information on where XML is used in bioinfo, and where it could be used but isn't because of size/speed/other problems.

Problem is, there's a lot to look at and I don't know where to turn to. So if you have any pointers, they'd be much appreciated. Give me a year and I'll make XML boldly go everywhere it was too verbose before ;)

XML in bio

Unfortunately, the bioxml.org site appears to have been retired. You might want to start with BioDAS (web services + Lincoln Stein = genomic goodness!) and this project list.

Thanks, somehow I thought you might answer this question ;) I'll look through those sites for an area to do reasearch in. I've also subscribed to bioperl-l, just in case...

bioperl is a great place to start. Those guys are awesome. If you introduce yourself and ask where you might be of use, they'll be happy to point you to areas where they need code.
