Given that dahuts are cumbersome, and overall rather dumb animals (especially right-dahuts), my heart always balanced between two different other pets I'd like to have one day.
One of those is a fourreux (the small animal at the top, couldn't find a better one), a rather special animal with interesting powers. I hope that La Quête de l'Oiseau du Temps becomes available to the non-francophonous amongst you, it's a true masterpiece.
The other one, less ominous and probably smarter is a Marsupilami. Marsupilamis are wonderful animals, and as it happens the first one was discovered exactly 50 years ago. Happy birthday !
PS: no, I haven't gone (quite) mad yet. I guess that if you can't understand those references it's just unfortunate cultural mismatch. Hmmmmm. I wonder how those ideas could be gotten accross without the actual books.
