Jean-Toussaint Desanti died yesterday. He was one of the greatest french philosophers, and more importantly a truly fascinating fellow. Not the kind to bore one to death with silly distinctions. In fact, despite his vast knowledge and deep understanding of many things, he wrote little as he despised talk for the sake of it.
One of my favourite bits is when in Philosophie: un rêve de flambeur (Philosophy, a gambler's dream) he takes a stand against the acquisition of knowledge. Knowledge, when acquired, should be immediately regambled. Capitalising knowledge is the surest path to mental stagnation (all of this in a nutshell of course, the book is much better at explaining this). I like that.
Anyway, I'll miss him. He made philosophy fun.
