At long last, Adobe's excellent SVG viewer plugin is available for Linux. Their viewer is the most advanced currently in existence, and was so far only available for Win/Mac. It is better than Batik because -- apart from it not being Java -- it supports animated SVG.
If you don't know SVG, I highly recommend you take a look at it. It's a 2D vector format with an XML syntax, and many many goodies inside. It's as if you took Flash and gave it a brain, and also made it available to people that will know to do more with it than use it on a stupid splash page. For instance I used it to create a full-fledged road object editor for the french government, and it was a breeze to use (including to create a complete road map with all the objects one normally associates with a road, make them draggable in several views, etc...). It's powerful stuff.

Oh, and in case you're suspicious about plugins managing to get any market penetration, Adobe is shipping it with all it's products, including Acrobat Reader. The penetration level is already rather amazing.
