I've given in and I'm running the CGI version of the XML-RPC interface for Movable Type. The mod_perl interface just wasn't working. I don't know why, I've got my feelers out though. I tried with Kung-Log, BlogApp, and Net::Blogger with Perl. No go on all accounts.
It's not a terrible solution, after all, I get to use Kung-Log now with spell check and iTunes support built in. Things I've always wanted.
