Where'd my network card go?

Got dial-up working great but now, the thing refuses to see that I have a network card. It saw the thing before, but not now. I'm convinced RedHat's UNusefull tools are behind this.

I think I'm in the market for a new distro. One that makes me think before I act. [insert hfb comment about OBSD here]
