FreeBSD ports are not as DWIM or "just work" as I had hoped. It's end of day two and I still don't have gnome compiled. And it's not gnome's fault! Ports just are broken in odd ways, or missing, or worse. I wonder if this has anything to do with my 4.5-STABLE instead of current-STABLE. OTOH, I've done cvsup several times and am confident I've got the latest. On top of that, I have to set FORCE_PKG_REGISTRATION to "yes" or nothing will install.
Woes, oh the woes. In the mean time I'm evaluating vim and installing cool software on other computers, software that does not come from ports.
