(I am NOT trying to convince you all to write short entries, but I am trying to convince you that the larger your entry is, the more chances it has of scaring readers away)

I actually read journal entries, long and short as long as the content is ok. If people give code examples (working) and URLs even better.

I agree, and I read them too :)

It's just that when I see a journal entry 50 lines long, just plain text... it really doesn't appeal to me... :)

That idea is true enough but only to a limit - the NASA Columbia inquiry was very critical of the practice of having all information transfer done using Powerpoint sized slide representation.
