Modules placed in CPAN that fail their own test suites

One of the most frustrating things that casual perl "users" run into is that modules won't smoothly install via CPAN.pm. Recently a thread started on slashcode where somebody was running into this sort of thing. I'm not trying to be just another whining user. I'm concerned about the effect this sort of thing has on the image of perl. Amusingly, ActiveState has made this whole process considerably smoother for the modules they've made available through their own module system. So, this is mostly a *nix issue. I don't think many of us want Windows to be a better perl platform that *nix. Food for thought....

Windows only?

There are Linux and Solaris versions of ActiveState Perl, so if you want ppm for *nix, you have it. The main problem is that a lot of the ppm modules are seriously outdated.

CPANPLUS

Thank goodness for CPANPLUS.

Part of the problem is that not everyone submits a bug report for broken modules. At least it's easier with CPANPLUS.
