One of the most frustrating things that casual perl "users" run into is that modules won't smoothly install via CPAN.pm. Recently a thread started on slashcode where somebody was running into this sort of thing. I'm not trying to be just another whining user. I'm concerned about the effect this sort of thing has on the image of perl. Amusingly, ActiveState has made this whole process considerably smoother for the modules they've made available through their own module system. So, this is mostly a *nix issue. I don't think many of us want Windows to be a better perl platform that *nix. Food for thought....
