Probably Famous

I'm torn: OOH, I know this has at least happened to one other person -- OTOH, I've never heard of it, so it may be a fairly obscure situation.

I'll present the notable readme, and anyone else who's had this crop up can chime in. I'm too tired to go searching for it today; tomorrow I'll look at my options a little more closely.

This problem has been reported under some versions of SuSE and RedHat
Linux (it appears to be related to a partcular RPM distribution of
Perl). Perl was built incorrectly, causing some but not all loadable
modules to fail. The only solution I know of is to rebuild Perl
correctly from scratch and reinstall all previously-installed modules.

The terror I felt reading this is akin to what I've felt in horror games when I find the classic 'letter by the corpse on the floor', usually styled thusly:
The worst part isn't that they try to kill you, it's that they try to eat you alive.
If you're breathing the air they breathe, you're becoming one of them already. There is no cure
and the letter is torn off there, and pools of blood are everywhere.

That's what I felt when I read that, and sure enough, it happened.

Right now, it would appear that I've got two options: Give up on GD, or get source and build Perl from scratch.

There may be some other option, but I'll look for it tomorrow morning.

The command prompt is closing in; everywhere I look, they claw at me URRRK
