Just now, for shits and giggles, I ran the script that just puts all the buttons and stuff where I want 'em while System Monitor was open, trying to see what kind of resource profile it had.
Instantly my CPU usage shot from the 25% range to max. It wasn't a momentary thing, either. Stuck like that the whole time I kept the window open. (I should note that when it was in the 25% range I had PFE, several IE windows, MSN Exploder, Winamp, and Trillian all running simultaneously.)
Scary.
Quite despite my best efforts, I've been tempted to sit and watch the mail carrier arrive, for reasons made obvious by earlier journal entries. I keep telling my mind to sit still and wait. :)
