I have removed the firewall software (ZoneAlarm's free edition) that was on this system after the third time in a row that it failed. It was having problems for a while, but this was the last straw.

I'm trying out Agnitum, until it irritates me to the point that it, too, must be plucked from my computer.

I have the paid version of ZoneAlarm and haven't had any problems. It isn't my only line of defense but given that my wife isn't very computer savvy. I would be real interested in knowing what problems you are seeing as I have been running it worry free for over a year.

I don't think it's ZA's fault per se, but WinME's. After the fourth reboot without ZA detecting my DSL, I was done playing nice with it.

It's been pretending there's no connection off and on for a while now, but Agnitum has been working consistently in the time I've had it installed.
