Flooding, flooding, flooding. With 12 seconds between paragraphs and 2 seconds between individual lines, I'm no longer getting a flooding problem. Tweaking will ensue, to see if this can be made faster.
Then we'll see how it does with a nice long Wikipedia article. :\
