Yes, I heard that as well. Perhaps we could play Perl Golf by trying to retrospectively writing the Perl program the winner used!

I'm more of a BBC junkie than NPR junkie, but I've been off-and-on using Perl to solve the weekly puzzle, when it appeared amenable to attack with /usr/dict/words. I presented my use of Perl to cheat at word-puzzles to Boston.PM 2003-12-09, http://world.std.com/user/wdr/x/wesun/WESun.html, which includes discussion of 3 NPR puzzles that don't seem very Perl-able, as well as several that were.

A good number of my solutions have turned on manipulation of canonical representation, especially for anagrams, but regex weirdness shows up too.

I've wondered whether the WordNet modules would help with some of the others ...
