Classes started today at the University at Buffalo and in the past this has been an eventful day for our department. And when you're in an IT department, eventful is not a good thing.
At a University, the first day of classes is sort of like Xmas at an ecommerce site. Students and faculty suddenly need to know where they should be today.
But so far, we're doing OK this year, even with the anticipated 50% increase in traffic over our peak last semester. We've had this level of increase for the last 6 or more semesters on our web sites. We're still waiting for it to top off at some point.
These days, we can handle it thanks to mod_perl.
mod_perl rocks!
