I finally found time to play with the Xircom SpringPort wireless card I have been raving about. The network setup was not the easiest or most documented thing in the world and the Palm does not come with the network tools a unix dork expects to always have available.
Once I got the card to connect to the network (tip for others: make sure you add the card's MAC address to your protected wireless access point), I struggled with the included software for a while until I discovered it sucks.
Eudora has a nifty Internet Suite for the Palm OS which includes a web browser and an email client. The browser works well and has a pretty good set of shortcuts for common tasks. Whoever designed the browser actually uses it, I bet.
CPAN Search works very well in EudoraWeb. It is as fast as Mozilla (usually), and the formatting is clear. Now I can read module documentation on the Palm. I have not found a way to save files though (besides emailing them to myself and reading them in the mail client).
Although this has limited usefulness within my apartment considering we already have several wireless laptops. It should be handy at conferences though---no more need to carry around a laptop, no matter how light, just to check email, read the web, or order a book from Amazon.
