Perl on MacOS X brings together a lot of interesting things.
A lot of people seem to be talking about Smalltalk at the MacOS X Conference. In my tutorial this morning I talked about AppleScript a bit, so I talked a little bit about Smalltalk.
I learned Smalltalk a couple of years ago because Randal kept talking about Squeak (a smalltalk implementation). We used some Squeak Wiki stuff for one of our WebBuilder conference demonstrations.
Smalltalk is a really simple language and makes a lot of sense once you grok it. It is a truly object-oriented language, unlike some pretenders. Although learning any language helps me with Perl, knowing Smalltalk really helps me think about objects in Perl.
Smalltalk came up again at lunch, but it was more fun to complain about AppleScript.
In this afternoon's talk, Dan Sugalski is talking about CamelBones, which means he talked a bit about the translation of Objective C to Perl, so he mentioned Smalltalk a couple of times.
