This may disturb a couple of people in the Perl world (you know who you are), but this month's Men's Health (US Edition, June 2005, p. 128) has a list of things that convey weakness and should not be in your office. Number 6 is "Anything orange: it suggests emotional instability".
It suggests, though, "A map or a globe: It demonstrates interest in world events, which implies that you're a big-picture thinker".
Some people come out even I guess. :)
