No matter what you think of XP and all that hoopla, IT Conversations has an interesting talk on Developer Testing. He talks about the different between the health of software and the quality of software.
He makes an interesting point about people who complain about the cost of testing. He asks "Compared to what?". Compared to fixing bugs, lost sales from crappy word-of-mouth, etc. Cost is related to tools too. If you have good tools, it costs you less. If you don't have good tools, well, you're pretty much screwed anyway.
He doesn't really hit too hard with his Java stick (although he has a Python stick, too), so don't be afraid of him. :)
