Adam and I were talking about the state of Perl earlier this week, and now that he has gone public, so have I, in my weblog.
Adam discusses all of the usual suspects, and I argue that for Perl to win, nobody else needs to lose. You know, the basic crap we always say. :)

why are people so frequently looking for signs to prove either to themselves or to the world, most often pointing to CPAN? People still use it, but then people still use COBOL and ADA, too. It's not going anywhere any time soon, but I don't know that people outside the sphere of influence really care all that much and inside there are some doubts as to where it is going and which projects will actually get finished. I'm sure I don't have to tell you the special word biologists have for "stable".
