Introduction

This is my first post in my use.perl.org journal, and I'll use it to introduce myself. I'm a Bioinformatics student at the Rochester Institute of Technology. I'm also a part-time Unix consultant, avid Perl programmer, water polo player and jazz guitarist.

Over the last few years I've written a few applications in Perl for my research in Bioinformatics, including:

  • a database system with a CGI interface for handling gene expression data
  • a genetic algorithm for predicting RNA editing sites in A. thaliana
  • a variety of simple programs for data retrieval and conversion, system administration and random other computer applications

My purpose in starting this is to discuss some of my thoughts on Perl, Bioinformatics and other random thoughts that are on my mind. Hopefully I'll also have some time to put up some code samples. Enjoy. :)
