Death of a newsgroup

bart on 2009-09-14T07:30:57

When I downloaded the headers of the usenet groups I follow, this morning, I saw no new headers in comp.lang.perl.misc. None at all??

So I doublechecked. In the last 24 hours, there have been 3 (no, 4) automated FAQ postings, and 2 spam messages. That is all.

That is strange...

There is a glitch happening somewhere. I see posts today but only a couple. Looks like it "died" after 9/11.

Verizon recently announced impending usenet feed stop, idk the effective date. That may be unrelated.

Where are you getting feed and what robust spam filter are you using? I have mostly ignored Usenet although i have kedt my original ISP world!wdr account active.

Usenet does that sometime

That is probably a temporary issue. That newsgroup has been mildly active, even without my FAQ post every six hours.

comp.lang.perl.misc died years ago, though.

It's picking up, today...

After a very slow start of the week in comp.lang.perl.misc, I just retrieved 34 unread headers (apart from those that I ignore), all from the last 12 hours. Which is still nowhere near the old number, it used to get 300 messages a day, but it's still a respectable number.
