ISO file... binary?

I've downlaoded about 8 different distributions of Linux and FreeBSD, all CD image files, and none of the people who bring them out seem to be aware that ISO files are binary files, not text, so the md5 checksum files should have " *" in front of the file name, and not two spaces. Duh!
