New Look use.perl

Is it just me or has the layout changed for use.perl?

Despite missing the colours of the previous version, the only really annoying change is that the link, via the old use.perl logo, back to the index/home page has gone. You now have to enter the URL by hand :( Hopefully it'll get added to the Navigation links, unless a new logo is in the making.

Ooops! I stand corrected the logo is now at the bottom of the page, to which you have to scroll down to get to. Would better up top IMO.

The site does look nice, and I like the general layout, with the nice use of CSS. Hopefully this might mean we can customise the look and feel for ourselves at some point.

I need to find time to figure out if this changes the WWW::UsePerl::* modules now.

Update: Just spotted the amigos page in Firefox looks awful. On first glance it looks like the CSS positional settings need to be fixed, as headings appear over the content and content areas seem to be a fixed size rather than variable :(

Tests?

Doesn't it have tests? O:-)

CSS is broken

essuu on 2005-07-13T11:55:20

I think you'll find it's the CSS that's broken. These hrefs don't look right to me:

<link rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" media="screen, projection" href="//use.perl.org/base.css" title="Slashcode" >
<link rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" media="screen, projection" href="//use.perl.org/comments.css" title="Slashcode" >
<link rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" media="print" href="//use.perl.org/print.css" title="Print" >

That actually looks like an obscure but valid form of URL. Presumably it's "protocol relative" rather than "host relative".

Ah yes. My mistake. Although arguably the CSS is still broken, in allowing this ghastly mess :-)

WWW::UsePerl::Journal is broken

Yes it does. See the ticket I just filed for a patch.

Thanks Simon, I hope to have some time this week to review all the screen scraping. The site looks like it's being tweaked here and there at the moment, so the modules might be a bit fragile until things settle down.
