Last night I was crewing for Elliot Sharp's Terraplane Plus. While setting up, Terry (the other roadie) and I spotted a poster listing the members of the band. Top of the list was Eric Mingus. Any relation to Charlie we thought, and sure enough it turned out to be his son. Also mentioned was Hubert Sumlin, who might not be so well known, but has been credited as being an influence on Eric Clapton, Jimmy Page, Frank Zappa and Calos Santana among others. His was certainly on fire last night.
Also in the line up, whose name I didn't recognise at the time, was Curtis Fowlkes. I'd done lights for him about 10 years ago when he was with The Jazz Passengers, also featuring Debbie Harry. Who coincidentally I'll be seeing next week when Blondie play the old Hummingbird (now The Academy, Birmingham). Then I also discovered that Sim Cain, used to be the drummer with The Henry Rollins Band.
It's nice to name drop sometimes :)
