June 2008 is another notable point in history of Perl in Russia. It is not a national holiday "The Day of the Independence" took place on 12th of June. It is another PM group, SPb.pm, organized here during these days.

SPb stands for Saint-Petersburg, the city north-west to Moscow. It is the city which twice was the capital of the country. Now it is called "The second capital" or "The northen capital" and is second most important city in Russia.

The history of most of current PM-groups in Russia and neighbouring countries is very closely connected to the history of Perl events hosted here. After the first Perl workshop in Moscow in 2007 Kazan.pm, RostovOnDon.pm and Vladivostok.pm appeared.

Another two groups has been raised this year. They are Odessa.pm in Ukraine and SPb.pm in Russia. Odessa.pm appeared in May (apparently following first Ukrainian Perl workshop in February), SPb.pm right after first YAPC::Russia.

Nice results I think.
