Over the weekend, while fighting our way round the congested shops, I took an opportunity to play with some MacOS X iBooks on display. John Lewis have a good display of Sony VAIO and Mac kit, and there was no sales droid in sight so I was able to play with it until I got the hard stare from my better half.
They do look really pretty, I must say that they look much nicer than any Microsoft box I've seen, and while I do like the look of K, I must admit it's probably the prettiest desktop I've seen in a while. I wasn't able find where to start a shell up, but hunting around the display model, I quickly found a Perl folder, and an Apache folder, probably not what your average Mac user uses, but very nice to find.
I've still not bought a new machine for home, and while the Mac does look VERY pretty, I think I'll still end up with a grey box AMD PC, running a BSD or Linux distribution. If I wanted a notebook, then the Mac looks a lot more competitive, but I'm not in that market, so no iBook for me... :-(
