I installed the Frozen Bubble game on a computer I'm building for my dad. It's very silly but quite fun.
I decided to tidy the machine up this weekend, so I spent a few hours upgrading the box from a stock Debian 2.4 i386 kernel to a stock Debian 2.6 i686 kernel. The annoying problem I had was OSS/ALSA sound problems, and lots of error messages during the boot sequence.
In the end I had to blacklisted lots of kernel modules from being "auto-discovered" and being installed - two Intel nic drivers for the same card, and then removing all the OSS sound card modules so the built in ALSA system would work.
When it was all done, Frozen Bubble still worked, but was now using ALSA instead of OSS, and there are now no errors on boot. Cool...
I don't think my dad will notice or care, but I've learnt a little bit more about Linux...
