I've decided to make some web sites I own/run fully W3C WAI 1.0 conformant. I always design to meet or exceed the single-A level of conformance, but since I redisgned my sites recently to improve "normal" usability and accessibility, I've realised upgrading all sites to triple-A conformance is going to be easy.
The UK Government, via the Disabilities Discrimination Act, requires all web sites that provide a service to the public to meet or exceed the W3C WAI 1.0 level single-A guidelines. Some charities have started to take companies to court, but given the sheer scale of bad web sites, it's taking a while to shake companies into action. Though not a legal requirement yet, the EU goes further and recommends double-A conformance for all web sites, which is even better.
Once I've cleaned my own act up, can I go after sites that are broken, with a clean concience....
