After YAPC in Paris, I went on a short walking holiday in the Loire Valley. To get their I took a nice train ride on a SNCF TGV from Paris to Tours. It was fast and efficient, I had a very pleasant trip, and at a very reasonable cost.
Today on the way home from work, I was delayed over 30 minutes, because we had the "wrong kind of heat", and the UK rail network was subject to speed restrictions, and hence considerable delays and disruption.
