Apple 2, Dell 0

If you have followed my journal you will know that I want a new box once I have ADSL at home. Since Apple launched the new G5s (Apple 1, Dell 0), this has altered the playing field some what in their favour.

On Friday I had a look round Dell's UK web site, it's rather clunky, and has no obvious mention of Linux, and I'm not paying the Windows tax on a new PC. I sent their sales droid an email, and waited. The sales droid responded, so I had to reply and repeat my question to get through to a human being, I waited again. On Saturday an actual Dell sale operative replied that I can't order a Dell with Linux on over the web site, but if I ring up it can be arranged (Apple 2, Dell 0).

Now I know Dell is bullied by Intel to not use AMD processors, and by Microsoft to not sell Linux, but it's a massive company, they sell lots of boxes worldwide, and a lot of people run Linux/BSD on them, why can't I just select my OS? and save £50 - I don't actually mind buying SuSE or RedHat.
