Next month there are the local elections in England. It's all a very sad and amateur affair. Yesterday one candidate, from one of the big parties stuffed his flyer through our letter-box. It's quite pathetic, there is a photo of him which could be an "e-fit" from crimewatch, a childish unreadable font for the main body text, and a few cheap shots at the other parties.
We use postal votes so we avoid the usual sillyness around the polling station, so I tried to find out about the candidates early so it's all over and done with. No joy on the council's web site, and no joy on the sites of the major parties (all pretty awful). Is it no wonder that the UK local elections have turnouts as low as 20%...?
