YAPC::Europe Day 2

Another bright day in Birmingham. I saw ambs talking about Parsing in Perl, in which I learnt that Perl is a crap language for doing text processing and that I should investigate re2c and lemon. Paul Johnson lead us through Testing Web Applications with Test::WWW::Mechanize and Selenium, which I should do clever virtual machine things with. For the rest of the morning I got over my syntax feeling and let Jan-Pieter Cornet have "Fun with POE", explaining a lot about POE starting from a simple example.

A quick curry later, and I joined in the CPANTS hackathon (CPANTS rocks) before I had to rush off to my talk. I think it went well, there were some interesting questions at the end. I joined the hallway track afterwards, doing a little hacking on small projects that'll get done when I have a little more sleep. The highlight of the day was the conference dinner: feeding 200 geeks isn't an easy task and the wedding venue was ideal and the Indian food was all really tasty. Mmmmm!

re2xs

regarding re2c, re2xs might be interesting, too: http://use.perl.org/user/Matts/journal/30597

re2c has the shortcoming that subsumed regexps, e.g. "FOO" inside "FOOD", cannot be matched, though.
