Amazon isn't a book company, it's a technology company. They've just unwrapped the Amazon Distributed Systems Engineering site and it's quite interesting to find out what they do. The jobs page is quite revealing and contains such nuggets as "Amazon.com's multi-tier service-oriented architecture leverages hundreds of thousands of logical compute nodes". Hundreds of thousands? Are they trying to beat Google? Sounds pretty interesting!
