Timezone hate

There's a bunch of online calendar applications. I've been happily using 30boxes for now - I like the quick response times. The new kid on the block is Google Calendar, so I try it out. Looks nice and fast too. When I sign up, it asks me (as 30boxes did) what timezone I'm in: London baby yeah!. I export my events from 30boxes in ICS format, which looks a little like this:

...
BEGIN:VEVENT
SUMMARY:Andrea arrives
DESCRIPTION:
DTSTART:20060413T140500
DTEND:20060413T140500
DTSTAMP:20060413T025702
UID:X-30Boxes-32476
URL:http://30boxes.com/index.php?action=highlightDate&date=2006-04-13
END:VEVENT
...

and I import the ICS into Google Calendar and all the times are off by eight hours!. That 2.05pm event is now at 10.05pm. Pesky dates! Pesky software!

So I try to work around this, set the timezone to be GMT-8, try to reimport and GCalendar won't let me reimport the events. It's beginning to be a hateful day, but at least Andrea is arriving this afternoon...

Google Calendar

Yeah, and they (Google Calendar) fails to import multi-byte characters even .ics files are encoded in utf-8. Pesky!
