No, I don't mean SARS, I mean sar, the handy system monitoring program that is part of the sysstat package of utilities. Now computers are great, but sometimes they don't behave as expected. It's at this point where you really want details system stats for the last few hours to try and pinpoint what exactly the problem is. sar is actually quite good in this regard. However, it outputs reams and reams of text. Now number are great, but it's easier to see trends and incidents with charts (e.g.: "look, there was a spike in the number of sockets"). As far as I can tell everyone seems to make complicated stats apps with rrdtool but nobody has written has simple rrdtool frontend to sar. You know, something which given the output to sar makes a bunch of pretty charts. Dear lazyweb, please prove me wrong or I'll have to build one...

Indeed, it's been ages since I touched it. The parsing stuff might be useful though.
