It's not often you see Amelia participating in the CPAN drinking game. Anyway, at the end of YAPC::Europe, it is traditional for Greg McCarroll to host an auction. We aim to keep the conference price low and the auction is a good way to raise some funds for this and future YAPCs. Sponsors donate books, Perl Monger groups donate tshirts and random items also get auctioned. Greg is a wonderfully amusing auctioneer and is very effective at getting high prices for the items. He sprinkles special lots throughout the auction. One was my right to wear orange at the next YAPCs: thankfully I can tell you that the "Orange" won over the "Not orange" group with a total of ââ¬210. BooK then somehow offered Euros for me to wear a fishnet top (NSFW!). Greg then auctioned off a baby, errr, I mean, gellyfish's future son's middle name (thankfully my "Orange for a boy, Pink for a girl" bid didn't win) and then a dinner with Greg and a 1966 Port. Leaving the final special lot (blaming muttley) of a limited-run tshirt of the former Iraqi Information Minister proclaiming that Pugs has always been in the Perl 6 roadmap, which went for a tidy little sum.
Finally José gave a talk on why organising a YAPC gives you really weird nightmares and then it was all over. Many thanks to José, Alberto, Magda and all the other organisers for the best YAPC::Europe yet! Good luck to YAPC::Europe 2006 organisers, which will be in Birmingham, UK.
