Module updates

I've updated a few modules in the past few days . Barbie provided a few patches for CPAN::WWW::Testers::Generator and CPAN::WWW::Testers so that testers.cpan.org now includes the Perl and operating system version. For example, see the Data::Page reports.

Also, Don Armstrong (the Debian maintainer of the package) provided patches for Image::Imlib2 which should work under Imlib2 1.1.2 (and maybe 1.2.0).

Finally, I released an updated Parse::CPAN::Packages (just to fix a warning) and Module::Packaged (updated, fixed Fedora, Mandrake, SUSE). Using these two, I munged in the Phalanx 100 and produced a table full of numbers. This shows which versions of the CPAN modules chosen by the Phalanx project are packaged in which operating system distribution. So for example, the latest Digest-HMAC is in all the dists I have data for, while only FreeBSD has packaged the latest DBI (1.47) - and Gentoo still has 1.38! Patches for other distributions are welcome.

It's only statistics, but it looks like FreeBSD might be the CPAN hacker's distribution of choice...

I'm getting ready to head off to Florida for a few weeks, and then to YAPC::Taipei. I'm giving a talk entitled "Exploiting Other Enterprises' Web Services". The blurb goes "Web Services are the next wave of enterprise development. Large companies such as Google, Amazon and eBay are solving the challenges of developing, deploying, and supporting complex services in the face of interoperability and scalability challenges. Seeing as they've gone to all this trouble, it's only fair to present how we can exploit all this hard work using a few lines of Perl."
