I have a couple of modules on the CPAN. Some of them I haven't touched in a while, some are updated very frequently and are very feature-full, and some are silly. This journal entry is about the silly one.
It used to be called Buffy, but now it's Acme::Buffy. I now have my own top-level CPAN namespace!
OK, not really.
If you don't know why it's silly, go and look at it. If you don't know why it's called "Buffy" then you're missing out on a wonderful vampire-slaying TV series. It's infectious - it started out on London.pm and has even hit the latest TPJ. Anyway...
Damian started it with his silly Bleach module, using a top-level namespace. Other modules such as Buffy, DNA, Pony, and Smirch followed. However, using the top-level namespace is a bad precedent within the CPAN, so we had to choose somewhere to put all these silly modules. "Silly::" was not a option. "Acme::" won. Named after me!
OK, not really.
My nick ("acme") and the new namespace "Acme::" are both in homage to that greatest of all absurd system creators: Wile E. Coyote.
Meep-meep!
