We all hate software. Sky had the idea. I got the domain. Richardc had the mailing list software he could hack. It's just a beginning, but now we can show how much we hates software...

we hates clueless users.

I browsed through a few of the entries, and what can I say ... No wonder you people hate the software if you don't understand how it works! ;-)

(ok, not for all the entries - but for several).

You can configure your DHCP server with longer lease times; then the client shouldn't try to renew the lease after just an hour.

(default-lease-time [seconds]; and max-lease-time [seconds]; IIRC).

That's not the point. The point was that it shouldn't have just given up and dropped completely off the net if it couldn't find a DHCP server.

But (IIRC) that's what the RFC (2131) says that it should do.

Aha: "If a client has knowledge of a previous network address and is unable to contact a local DHCP server, the client may continue to use the previous network address until the lease for that address expires. If the lease expires before the client can contact a DHCP server, the client must immediately discontinue use of the previous network address and may inform local users of the problem".

The problem in this case was that syssies hadn't got error reporting working right and/or weren't checking it. The theme clearly can be extended to hates-syssies.com and hates-users.com...

Where have you been all my life, baby?
