"Who draws the crowd and plays so loud?
Baby, it's the guitar man
Who's going to steal the show? You know,
Baby, it's the guitar man"
-- Bread

I just returned from seeing the Trans-Siberian Orchestra. They definitely can put on a good show, so they should ditch the entirely over-engineered light display and the perpetual fog machine and just perform.

Of course, in a sense, they did. The concert lasted nearly three hours, with no intermission. (Which is how I know I'm getting old. I needed one.) The break between their two albums - they performed the entire Christmas Eve album - consisted of a single 20 minute jam.

With the Merriweather Post Pavilion, Nissan Pavilion, USAir Arena, the MCI Center, and JFK Stadium all common venues competing for the same tired acts, it's amazing that the last four or five decent concerts I've gone to have been at the Meyerhoff.
