On the other side of the table

I'm helping with some of the recruiting at my current job, so I'm going through some of the same job boards that I used before to look for contracts.

A few tips I can pass along:

  • If you're going to post your resume on your own web site, make sure it stays up.
  • If you want a Perl position, saying you have
    ...experience with Perl 5.6/5.8/6.0
isn't impressive, unless your name is Larry Wall.
  • Similarly, saying you have
    C#: 10+ years experience
    doesn't reflect well either.
I did like the person who described themselves as a "dymanical" developer.

Man... could I tell you some stories... :-)

There is at least one University in Portugal where students of computer science take classes on how to behave in an interview...

A common flaw is that none of them, in any University thoughout the country, seem to know anything about making resumes :-) Many of them include the most irrelevant information, while others have trouble making their point...

Humm... I once started making some slides on that subject... I wonder where they are...
