I've never really used IRC before, and I thought I might give it a try. Yesterday I tried connecting to #perl on EFNet, DALnet, and freenode.net. I hardly saw anyone I recognized, either from here or from Perl Monks, or from work. The conversations weren't really about Perl either. (I suppose I should be used to that from the PM chatterbox. ;-) But there was a lot of berating of newbies.
Am I looking in the wrong server/channel? Or do the cool Perl folks just not use IRC?
Am I looking in the wrong server/channel?
irc.perl.org
will round robin between various IRC servers on the right network. #perl
is probably a reasonable channel to start in.
If you're looking for the "famous" Perl folks, look on irc.perl.org (or is it perl.irc - I forget). Don't be surprised by lots of OT conversations there as well.
Me? I'm trying to cut back on IRC. It's a giant time suck.
