Today I got laid off from the job I'd started back in February. I'm not really angry -- I'm already making headway lining up some contract work -- but I'll probably never go back to "permanent employment".
What bothers me is the indignity. When my contracts were about to end, for whatever reason, we planned the turnover, had meetings, made sure everything was in place, and I'd say goodbye. This morning I was completely in the dark, until I was told to clean out my desk, and "don't talk to people". It just felt unclean, somehow.
