Working!

I started my new job today. Not a contract this time, but a "permanent" job.[1] It's a very nice place: they use lots of open source and there's lots of very smart (and very nice) people. I found it thru jobs.perl.org, and I was also referred there by someone I met here and on Perl Monks.

One thing I found most striking: as a contractor, when I'd walk in to a new place, my first day generally included a talk along the lines of, "Here's the fire, where's your hose?" I asked my VP today what he considered to be the first fire I had to put out, and he told me there isn't one. "The engine's humming over nicely, just make it better." I find this astonishing (and nicely refreshing).

I have high hopes. I hope they pan out.

[1] "Permanent" in quotes, because no job ever is....

Congratulations!

I hope everything works out for you. Right off the bat, it sounds good start a job where the company's not panicking.
