Well, January came and went, and I'm still looking for a contract. Usually, hiring activity picks up right after the Super Bowl (I have no idea why), but I couldn't detect much of a change yesterday. So I've decided to broaden my search to include full-time work as well. The savings are getting smaller than I like, and bills are starting to come due.
It's strange. Four years ago I quit my (consulting) job so I could get my own company started. At that point, I started consulting independently just so I could pay the bills. Now that I'm actually faced with applying for a "regular" job, I'm not looking forward to being out of consulting. I think it's similar to the conundrum depressives face: "It's not what I want, but it's familiar."
