That's hives if you don't know Latin. I get it once in a while; I've never bothered to find out exactly what causes it. The best that the dermatologists could tell me was, "It's probably something you ate". I usually get it on an arm or near my chest, it itches for 2-3 weeks, spreads to the immediate vicinity, and then it goes away.
A week ago I got it in the small of my back. It's spreading to where it's embarassing to scratch.
This is the last time I write in here about skin conditions.
I know the feeling...

I had it too several years ago - it's gone now!
It was probably something I ate (I have absolutely no idea what) but tight clothing and stress brought out the attacks.
You have my deepest sympathy - as if that helps at all.
Contact dermititis, my guess

Check the washing detergent, body soap, shampoo and deordorant you use.
I used to get it quite regularly as a teenager: pits, chest, waistline and underwear edges. Changed to Dial soap, Tide ( without scent ) and an Organic deoderant -- not a problem since. I would sincerely wonder about a Dr. who told you "something you ate" -- most food allergies don't manifest like you describe.
