I've spent the past few days day dicking around with a CGI system I'm writing, for maintaining lexicon databases. Nothing special. SQL, CGI, etc. -- nothing you couldn't see the likes of in that fun little Perl CGI book. The only trick is in making it happily modular and whatnot, so that a particular installation can just override a few necessary things, and then override other things (like the particular language's alphabetical sort function(s)) just as desired.
Odd thing I've been noticing -- after Locale::Maketext being sort of disused and merely a happy proof-of-concept for years and years, suddenly in the past six months there's been this mad rush of activity with it, with people picking it up and using it for all sorts of things. This pleases me in my special places.
I think I'll now turn in early (only 0300 local time!) and go read the paper. Where "read the paper" used to be something I used to do in the morning with a stack of newsprint, for me is now something I do as I doze off, with the laptop on my chest, reading online a paper that just came out, six timezones away. This is not an idea ergonomic situation -- in an ideal world, it would be projected in massive letters on the ceiling directly above me, instead of requiring me to tilt my head a bit to read off the screen on the laptop on my chest. Alternate acceptable solution: VR goggles/glasses. Yow, am I Jaron Lanier yet?!?!?
