Safe

Dear Log,

So a little taped up notice at the condo office tells us all that they'll be closed for Labor Day, and then says "Thanks, and have a safe holiday". Maybe I'm too semyotik, but I have to wonder what that means: "safe"?

Is this sign supposed to be what stops me from celebrating Labor Day in the traditional American way, i.e., in an E-fueled unprotected rough-sex fourway with some syphilitic Haitian she-male junkies, on some steep rickety stairs, with fireworks, before guzzling some some valium and booze and getting on the highway? Because if that little sign stops me from doing that, then the tairriss will have won!

I'd rather be told to have a fun holiday. Or relaxing. Or pleasant! Or even austere and spiteful!

"Safe" is how we are supposed to spend holidays now, it's odd. I think it started in the 70s with admonitions not to crash on labor day weekend, and not to eat razor filled apples on Halloween, and now holidays are now about Not Getting Killed.

We need to loosen up and have some major motor vehicle crashes to get us back in the saddle.
